Winner of a public art competition for Seattle’s Joint Training Facility–a center where Firefighters and Utility personnel conduct training–the JTF Lookout explores the concepts of balance, vulnerability and scale as these relate to the diverse branches of personnel who use the Joint Training Facility.\u00a0Constructed from a 9 foot diameter steel casing\u00a0that frames the sky,\u00a0the exposed structure<\/p>\n

shows\u00a0the raw magnitude of a large infrastructural element that is normally out of sight but profoundly critical to the workings of a city, much like the workers who train in this facility and who step into unknown and dangerous situations on a daily basis. The steel casing is painted brightly on its interior and has a contrasting, naturally oxidized exterior.
